When a Painting Finds Its Home
– It Becomes Unique!
When is a painting truly finished?
Why choose a painting instead of a mass-produced poster?
For me, the moment I put the final brushstroke on a canvas is not the end of the journey. In fact, it’s the beginning. That’s when the painting starts its real life – when it moves into the home of someone who feels something special in it.
I still remember selling my very first painting, Mother and Child. It was an unforgettable experience. The woman who bought it stood in front of it for a long time, then quietly said: “It feels as if this painting understands me.” Later, she wrote to tell me it had found a permanent place in her bedroom. Every evening, before going to sleep, she looked at it and found peace. She called it her “breathing space” – a place where she could breathe deeply, even when life was difficult.
Another time, I sold a painting to a family who had just moved into a new home. Their walls were white, and they longed for something that could bring warmth. When we carried the painting in and hung it on the wall, the room changed instantly – like a puzzle that had finally received its missing piece. Later, they told me the painting had become the heart of their home. The children even made up little stories about the figures in it, including one about a strawberry that had lost its spots. Guests always asked about it whenever they visited.
And then there are those quiet moments when someone stands in front of one of my paintings with tears in their eyes. Not necessarily because the painting shows something literal, but because the colors or the atmosphere stir something within them. Those are the moments I am reminded why I paint: because art creates connections where words fall short.
That, to me, is the magic of owning a true work of art:
The painting becomes a living part of your life.
It carries your memories, dreams, strength, or hope. And it grows with you. One day it may mean one thing – and years later, something else entirely.
When a painting finds its home, it is no longer just my work.
It is also yours – completely unique!
